BALAWAIA Savannah Cranes is a young selected side for the upcoming Gabagaba Super 9s tournament in Rigo, Central.

The tournament starts today and ends tomorrow.

Kemabolo Rugby Football League president, Lega Kikima and treasurer, Vanua Garo initiated the sponsorship purposely to engage young boys in sports.

Kema in the local dialect means crane, which is a bird common in the plains of the Rigo coast, and is the inspiration for the club’s name — Savannah Cranes.

The uniforms were donated by the Irau Tanu family  from Kembolo village — or the village of cranes.

The players were selected from Kemabolo, Gabone and Bonanamo villages in the Rigo coast local level government area.

The communities are backing their players and hoping for the best for the young side in their nines campaign.

Led by captain Govea Willie, the Cranes will be out to challenge the more experienced sides like Rovanama, SSG Roosters, Poreporena Marlins and others.
