The Office of the Civil Registry plays an important role in the country, where all the records of our past and present are, stored and archived, says Minister for National Planning and  Monitoring Charles Abel.
“I praise the staff of the Office of the Civil Registry who continue to provide services to the public although they lack proper work stations, machines and furniture,” said Abel, while addressing staff on Wednesday at their new office.
He urged all officers to keep up the good work and to strive for the best in everything they did.
Registrar General Dickson Kiragi said the civil registry was where important records were kept and the Government must recognise that such information must be preserved and saved for future use.
Meanwhile, plans are underway to see the civil registry become part of the Department for Community Development and merge with the Department of Planning and Monitoring in a bid to address the issue of data collection and preserving of data.
