SAVINGS and budgeting are two important pillars that form the foundation of a strong and vibrant family unit, a church leader said.

President of Catholic Women’s Association of Kundiawa Diocese Francisca Moiwo said that during the closing ceremony of the Highlands Regional Catholic Women’s week-long convention in Mingende last week.

“These days we seem to experience a lot of disunity and social upheavals at the family level because the fundamental bases of a family unit are not stable,” she said.

“In my opinion people need to be taught how to save and do proper budgeting and importantly adhere to and make it a routine business.

“Careless spending without proper budgeting often resultin families experiencing unwarranted problems,” Moiwo stressed.

She said people needed to make use of the opportunity provided by the Simbu provincial government such as the micro-credit scheme to avoid financial problems.

“The provincial government has supported us by bringing in this service to Simbu the Ambumangre Micro Credit scheme two years ago to help us budget our money,” Moiwo said.

She said all families were obliged to fulfil the requirement and need in their households and must be careful when it came to finance.

The convention ended with the election of new executives who would take over the roles of their predecessors.

The Women’s Group of Enga Diocese will host the next Catholic Women’s Highlands regional convention in 2016.
