SINGER and songwriter Leo Sayer is in the country as the guest entertainer for the Operation Open Heart (OOH) fundraising event.

He was invited by the PNG Orchid Society and OOH to perform at two major fundraising events – today at Motukea Island for the Curtain Brothers’ fundraising function and tomorrow night at the state function room at parliament.

He leaves on Saturday.

Sayer arrived in Port Moresby yesterday and was met by society patron and Moresby South MP and Minister for Sports, Pacific Games and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko.

Sayer, in the country for the first time, marvelled at the richness of the country’s sea and land environment.

“There are so many things here that we don’t have. It’s great to be in the Pacific.”

Charity work has been part of Sayer’s musical life as he is a part of several charity organisations in Australia.

“I like to do that kind of work – giving yourself to the people. We need to help those who are unfortunate.”
