A Morobean lass is the second winner of the Ruby Anne Laufa Memorial Scholarship which is awarded to a young woman every year to complete studies at the Legal Training Institute.
Monika Anio who completed her Law degree at the University of PNG last year, was filled with emotions when she was named the winner of the scholarship awarded by Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) Papua New Guinea.
The scholarship began after the tragic passing of former Miss PNG Ruby Anne Laufa while she was a student at the Legal Training Institute in 2017.
“I would like to sincerely thank the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG Committee and off course our reigning Queen Leoshina Kariha for considering me a worthy recipient of the Ruby Anne Laufa Memorial Scholarship 2019,” Anio said.
“I am empowered by this timely opportunity to be financially assisted in my training at the PNG Legal Training Institute and I choose to honour the memory of the late Ruby Anne Laufa by persevering in my studies and to practice the profession with distinction and the utmost candour.”
Chairperson of the MPIP PNG Committee Molly O’Rourke said: “We look forward to your admission to the bar after your studies and we are confident you will succeed in whatever role you play along your journey of life”.
The Ruby Anne Laufa Award is part of the MPIP PNG Scholarships for young women to complete tertiary education.
This year alone MPIP PNG has committed over K200,000 to assist 52 young women in tertiary institutions nationwide.”
