A REVIEW of Morobe’s Gerson Solulu Education Scholarship Scheme is currently underway as a measure to address issues arising from its implementation.
Provincial administrator Bart Ipambonj told the review team at an introductory meeting last Wednesday that the exercise was important as it addressed ongoing issues.
“We need to get a proper policy in place,” he said.
“As far as the scholarship is concerned, there is no law or policy in place for the scholarship.
“There are a set of guidelines, but these guidelines are outdated.
“We need to get rid of it and do a better one.”
“We need a proper law and policy in place so that this scholarship scheme can be implemented properly without any issues surrounding it.
“We need to make sure students are properly catered for under the scholarship.”
The scholarship scheme, created by the provincial government in 2004, has not undergone any review since.
Issues of late payment of fees and other technical errors increased over time.
Ipambonj said the review team needed to look at a new way forward for the scholarship scheme.
