PORT Moresby Soccer Association began its school soccer sevens tournament for the school holiday at Bisini soccer ground yesterday.
As part of the initiative by PMSA president Russel Tsuga, the tournament targets upper primary and high school  students.
Though not much publicity was given, a good number of schools attended the first day of the competition.
Tsuga and director John Mogi said the enthusiasm shown during the first day showed that students were keen on the programme.
The competition has attracted teams from Kilakila, Jubilee Catholic Secondary, Philip Aravure, Defence (ATS). Yamaros, Momase, Sea Eagles and POMSOE.
Parent John Pips, who attended the first day, commended Tsuga and his executives for the initiative.
“The competition has really helped our kids to stay occupied during the school holiday,” he said.
He urged community schools in NCD to join the programme.
Pips said the school soccer only concentrated on international schools and not primary schools.
