THE ever-growing School Boys Rugby League competition has finally set foot in rugby league-mad Chimbu.

The competition was formally launched at Kundiawa’s Dickson’s oval last Friday.

A large crowd of Digicel Cup proportions turned up to witness the launch of the concept initiated by the PNGRFL. The crowd comprised of mostly parents and guardians, teachers and other rugby league enthusiasts who travelled from parts of the province to witness what one termed was, “a dawn of a new rugby league era”.

Former Chimbu, Highlands Zone and Kumuls captain Bal Numapo, who is responsible for the Chimbu School Boys Rugby League (CSBRL) said he was proud of the huge turnout, although only seven schools were initially drafted into the initial stages of the competition.

The former champion centre was impressed by the interest shown towards bridging a missing link between the much talked about NRL Bid and the actual breeding ground.

The schools that are pencilled in for the CSBRL competition are Kerowagi Secondary, Ku and Kundiawa Lutheran High, Dumun, Prenorkwa, Mirane Joe Kunda Naur and Gon Kambua Primary Schools. Yauwe Moses and Kondiu Secondary Schools are expected to confirm their participation this week.
