School calls for early registrations

THE high demand for places in schools this year has prompted a school in Lae to call for students to formally register early.
Lae Secondary School (LSS) principal Christopher Raymond made this call while revealing that the school had received selections over its requested quota.
“I requested for 550 grade nines but the selection process gave me 613, which is 63 over my quota,” he said.
Raymond said despite this, many other parents were still requesting space to transfer their children.
“This is becoming stressful trying to meet parents’ requests so the early registration process will help me to know if some students have not registered and, after two weeks or so, I can give their spaces to the extra 63 students.”
Raymond said any other parents requesting space would not be attended to until all selected students were sorted out.
LSS registration begins from Thursday to Friday for all grades and next Monday is the start of school in the country.
“As much as possible, we want our grade 10s and 12s to start classes,” Raymond said.
He said these grades had two assessable terms.
