A PRIMARY school in Lae has commemorated World Water Day to highlight the importance of water sanitation and hygiene (Wash) and nutrition during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Omgea Primary School is doing its best to apply the “New Normal” protocols in its school.
The school established hygiene clubs, distributed more than 100 reusable face masks for students and installed tippy taps and soap for hand-washing.
The school is the site of a pilot project for the integrating Wash in Nutrition (Inwan) – lukautim gutpla kai kai through the “Klin Pasin” project.
The Inwan project is a partnership between the Morobe government, Lae city authority (LCA) and the Australian government as a Covid-19 response and recovery exercise for 29 schools in Lae.
World Vision PNG is the lead implementing partner of the Wash components of the Inwan project.
WV project coordinator Joel Johnson said more than 600 students, including teachers and key stakeholders from LCA and district health authority attended the event.
School principal Reuben Kaileah said World Water Day was on March, 22, however, due to the Covid-19 lock down in March, the school was not able to commemorate the day.
