School gets books for once-empty library

A PRIMARY school in Lae has received books for its library from a non-government organisation in Australia.
The Butibum Primary School, located near the Bumbu Settlement, built a library in 2014 but it had no books and bookshelves.
Teacher Ngamung Jacob said that now for the first time the school had library books, and the students and teachers were happy.
“There are 71 boxes of books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids – an Australian-based donor. While requesting for library books, we also thought of surrounding schools as well. There are 41 boxes for us and 30 for three elementary schools – Bumbu Stage 1 Elementary, Bumbu Stage 2 Elementary and All Saints Elementary,” Jacob said.
“Butibum Primary has more than 700 students and we hope that more donations would come.”
Head teacher John Jigembe welcomed the donation and challenged students to read a lot.
“From books, children will see their dreams become a reality,” he said.
“From books, children will see their lives change.”
Jacob called on businesses and individuals to donate bookshelves for the library.
