A PRIMARY school established by the Catholic church on Koil Island 50 years ago received two cheques totalling K120,000 from Wewak MP Jim Simatab at the weekend.

The first cheque for K100,000 was fulfilment of a commitment Simatab made seven years ago for infrastructure development at the school, while the second for K20,000 will go towards the school’s golden jubilee celebrations in September.

“I must admit the K100,000 commitment is long overdue. I would have given it to you earlier but because my 2007 election victory was nullified by the court in 2010, I could not stay on to fulfil this commitment,” Simatab said.

“St Michael’s has produced some of the senior public servants who are now serving in the district and throughout the country.”
