STUDENTS at the Raicoast High School are now enjoying new dormitories, ablution blocks and mess funded by the national government.

Classrooms and administration blocks will be completed soon.

The national government through the Mineral Resources Authority had approved the projects under the Ramu Nickel Mining Project’s memorandum of agreement.

Other projects that have been completed are the construction of eight police houses at the Walium and Usino police posts plus the construction of the Banu-Danagari and Banu-Brahman roads in Usino.

The projects are funded under the government’s public investment programme for the mining sector costing more than K3 million.

Member for Usino-Bundi Anton Yagama chipped in K2 million for the Banu-Braham road.

MRA acting managing director Philip Samar said the national government was fulfilling its commitment to the people of the project area and Madang province under the agreement.

He said the funds were allocated every year to the MRA for projects in mining areas.

Raicoast High School principal Ernest Sawiang welcomed the financial assistance to the school.

He said students’ morale had been boosted with the new-look dormitory.

He said their academic performance had even improved compared to when they were living in the old dormitories.
