School gets support from Govt of Japan

St Joseph Ruango Primary School in Talasea, West New Britain now has new school buildings, chairs, desks and water storage tanks, thanks to the Government of Japan.
Japanese Ambassador to PNG Nobuyuki Watanabe said the expansion project was funded by the government of Japan, through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
“With the grant of approximately K295,000, a two-storey school building with four classrooms and two teacher office rooms were constructed, and 96 chairs and desks, and two 9,000-liter water storage tanks were provided,” he said.
Watanabe expressed gratitude to the school management board and the West New Britain government who assisted in completing the project.
“I firmly believe that education is not only a vital tool to acquire knowledge and skills but also an investment for the future.
“Through this project, the Government of Japan is pleased to support the PNG Government’s efforts to improve the education sector,” he added.
He said the project was completed in November 2020, with counter funding from then-Governor Francis Maneke.
“Although we missed the opportunity to hold the handover ceremony more than a year and a half to date since its completion due to some restrictions imposed by Coronavirus (Covid-19) and other factors, I am glad to see that the students are already using those classrooms with great care.”
Watanabe said he hoped the project would contribute to strengthening the friendship between the people of Japan and PNG.
