School gets teacher’s home

 TEACHERS, students and staff of Lae Secondary School witnessed the opening of a K200,000 building this week.

The three-bedroom duplex has modern features such as a tiled kitchen, bathroom with sliding doors and kitchen tables.

Teacher Samson Giana said Lae schools had recently been challenged to provide quality education for its students.

He said Education secretary Michael Tapo had challenged school administrators to stop blaming government all the time but take it upon themselves to bring about quality education.

Giana said apart from being the best school in Lae, Lae Secondary continued to fly the flag for Morobe.

“Quality education can be achieved through proper infrastructure,” he said.

“You need good classrooms and teachers’ quarters. Currently 75 teachers reside on campus and we hope to bring the others in.

“This is part of our plan to bring quality education.”

Lae MP Loujaya Kouza said such an event indicated a good working relationship between the administration, parents and leaders. 

She said if the school needed more quarters for staff, she would be glad to help. 

Principal Christopher Raymond thanked Kouza and her team including district administrator Robbin Calistus for their help and support.

Raymond said teachers would be moving in as soon as electricity was connected by the end of this week.
