WARANGOI Secondary School in the Sinivit local level government (LLG) of Pomio, East New Britain, graduated its first batch of grade 12 students last Tuesday.
The ceremony saw 156 grade 12 and 331 grade 10 students present.
Warangoi is one of the country’s recently elevated high schools.
School principal Naomi Vuvu said for a student population of 1,057, it was a challenge which had direct implications on their teacher to student ratio, classrooms, dormitory space, excess to reference resources, teaching and learning materials, supervision as well as discipline.
Vuvu said the unavailability of teachers for an equitable spread on subjects taught, and the lack of teacher accommodation on campus, were other issues of concern.
“The inflows of tuition fee free (TFF) funds for students has not been consistent, however, with the collection of project fees and the assistance from parents and the school board, we have been able to sustain school operations this year,” she said.
She told the graduates to work hard and stay positive to achieve their dreams.
“We had some serious disciplinary issues, we experienced some testing times and these experiences gave us valuable lessons.
