A SECONDARY school in Port Moresby is happy with last year’s national examination results of its grade 10 and 12 students and praising teachers for their effort and commitment.
Gordon Secondary School principal George Kenega said despite the school dropping out of the top 10 academically performing schools nationwide in 2019 and 2020, Gordon made into top 10 again last year.
“Gordon Secondary was always in the top 10 academically performing schools in the country but we fell out of the top 10 in 2019 and 2020,” he said.
“Last year, the school’s grade 10s were ranked fourth and grade 12s fell out, but students in both grades did well in the national examinations.
“This year, we want both our grade 10s and 12s to be ranked amongst the top 10 schools.
“I have challenged the teachers to be top 10 teachers themselves in the various subjects they teach.
“If you want our students to perform well academically and get our school to the top 10 performing schools, you have to be the best teacher yourself in the subject you teach.
“If we have committed teachers with very good students, we can maintain consistency which we see as a challenge every year.”
