THE Bird Wing Independent School is proud of several of its students who were selected in the Papua New Guinea junior tennis team to the West Pacific regional championships in Port Vila, Vanuatu, from April 21-26.
PNG Tennis Association president Barbara Stubbings, through junior coordinator Diana Hasavi, delivered the selection letters to school principal Russell Jackson last week.
Jackson said it was a proud moment as the selection of siblings Sugarray and Colita Hakena as well as Nepheline Leah had inspired other students to take up tennis.
“We are proud that these three students will represent the school, their parents, association, stakeholders and sponsors at this event,” he said.
He wished the three the best at the championships next month.
The team to the championship is: U16 girls – Petronella Embetaya, Doris Bebes; U14 girls – Michaela Mesa, Namet Sanewai; U12 girls – Pauline Hyun, Colita Hakena and Nepheline Leah; U14 boys – Christopher Kaiulo, Sugarray Hakena; U12 boys – Thomas Hyun, Elisha Romney.
