A NEW primary school in East New Britain ran a major fundraising drive for two days last week to raise money for a classroom.
Tagitagi Primary School in the Tagitagi number two ward in Gazelle’s Toma-Vunadidir local level government (LLG) area was established in 2018 and will be graduating its first grade eights this year.
The school hosted its fundraising during independence celebrations on Thursday and Friday, starting with a church service, school march, brief history of PNG and other activities.
School’s head teacher Billson Brian said the school board and citizens in the community had meetings and discussed the fundraising.
Brian said the school received tuition fee free (TFF) funding this year for the first time but they had other school needs to pay for.
“We are implementing the 3-6-6 education structure taking in grade ones and two as well as the population of our children is increasing so we are going out of our own way to raise funds,” he said.
“The major reason for the establishment of the institution is the long distance to other primary schools.”
