School hosts launch of silver jubilee celebrations

Faith

THE Mary Help of Christians Catholic Parish in Port Moresby opened its silver jubilee and the Year of Youth on April 14 at Don Bosoc Technical School, in Gabutu.
Archbishop Mark Coleridge, from the Archdiocese of Brisbane, and Bishop Otto Separy, from the Diocese of Aitape, also attended the launch.
Visiting bishops of the Federation of Catholic Bishops Conferences of Oceania (FCBCO) Assembly celebrated Sunday Mass at the Don Bosco Technical School chapel.
The chapel was filled to capacity with parishioners from Sabama, Pari, Serokone and Gabutu.
The chapel was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1995.
Culture and faith merged through the traditional songs during the service.
Parishioners gathered in the hall after the mass for entertainment and launch of the Year of Youth.
The programme includes reports from the different committees preparing for next year’s 25th Year as a Parish with the theme “Growing, Serving, Renewing”.
A talk on family life was given by George Isoaimo, a parishioner, Salesian educator and co-operator.
