School invests in updated encyclopaedia

STUDENTS learning can be improved if they have surplus resources and materials to use at their own time rather than relying on teachers to feed them with all the information.
These were the words of Daru Secondary School principal Wambi Samm when buying the first copies of the 2010 Oxford Encyclopaedia in Port Moresby last week.
“We are the first secondary school in the country to purchase the current updated 32 volume encyclopaedia,” Mr Samm said.
He said they bought these books to build their library with more reference books that were current and updated so that students would be working with the current information.
Mr Samm said they were currently using the 2002 encyclopaedia and planned to build the curriculum materials from other supplies at the upper secondary science books in physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics.
