SCHOOL is an important part of your life.

“When I was at your age, I did not realise that it is such a part of your life where you can learn to do the right things and you need discipline, you need to be honest and you need to study hard.

At some stage, you would probably think, what I am doing in school. I don’t really enjoy it but when you get to our age, you will realise how important it is.”

And how lucky were the students of the St Joseph’s International Catholic College to have that message relayed to them from the “The Big Marn” Darryl Brohman.

The school assembly sprung to life when the students spotted Brohman and sports journalist Tim Gilbert last Friday walking to the assembly area.

Brohman is a long-time member of The Footy Show on Channel Nine and his segment “Small Talk with Big Marn” is one of the weekly highlights.

Brohman and Gilbert spoke to the students on the importance of education and believing in one’s dream.

“It’s pretty easy to get on the wrong track but if you listen to your teachers and parents I am sure they will point you in the right direction,” Brohman said.

He told the students that sports are an opportunity for them to express themselves.

“You keep playing sports because it’s a wonderful pathway for you to success so keep playing sports and stay healthy.”

Gilbert is a sports reporter, presenter and producer.

He said there was no reason why the students cannot achieve what they aim for.
