GRADE Three students of the Ororo Primary School will use a new classroom when school starts next year, an official says.
During the opening of the K73,000 classroom last Friday, head teacher Cecilia Kelgai said the building had been renovated and extended to cater for the growing number of students.
It is not waiting for government funds.
“I urge schools in the country to be self-reliant because these days government funds will take forever to fix your schools.”
The school has only started to receive funding for classroom and teachers housing infrastructure in 2002 from then Moresby North-West MP Sir Mekere Morauta.
Kelgai was first posted to the school 22 years ago in 1997 described the school to be in a village school setting and not conducive to learning compared to now with a lot of changes.
Since 2014, Kelgai said development in the school was happening fast with the school being elevated to a level seven school in the National Capita District.
The school’s board chairman, Philip Vaki urged other schools not to rely on government funds to give quality education to their children but for schools to be self-reliant.
“We cannot wait for government funds to give quality education to our children but we have to do it ourselves with team effort,” Vaki said.
