School opens new house for teachers

Education

The Tonu Secondary School in South Bougainville opened a new teachers’ house over the weekend.
The staff house was funded by the Bougainville regional member Joseph Lera through provincial services improvement programme funds.
The project, approved in 2017, was completed this years with support from the school administration, landowners and the contractor.
With integration of first grade 11 students this year to become secondary school from high school, it needs to improve its facilities and building infrastructures.
The school enrols more than 600 students and with the lack of infrastructure it has struggled to provide a conducive learning environment for its teachers and students.
