OUR Lady of Sacred Heart International School (OSLH) in Kavieng is preparing to start classes on April 27, according to principal Judeline Wadhwani.
Wadhwani, an Australian, wrote to the students’ parents from Melbourne informing them of the school’s plan, thought up though from virtual meetings with the chairman of the school board of management and head of administration.
“We have been regularly checking and discussing circulars from the Department of Education and New Ireland principals’ network,” she said.
Wadhwani said according to the circular from the Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra, based on the situation of the Covid-19 in PNG, the resumption date may differ.
She said based on that circular, the following arrangements would be put in place for a possible return date:

  • OLSH would make up for the loss of learning time and ensure that all students, especially students at years 8, 10 and 12 received the preparation they needed and deserved;
  • Members of the college leadership team would return to school on Monday, April 20, to plan for the term and year; and,
  • All teachers were expected to return to school on Tuesday, April 21, and parents and children could contact teachers from noon with any questions.

“In turn, may I request you to have a conversation with your child/children to ensure that they have submitted their responses to term one assessment tasks,” Wadhwani said.
“If they have not done this, ensure they are using this extended lockdown time to complete their tasks and to check the internet for any work their teachers have uploaded.”
Regarding hygiene standards, the school was thoroughly cleaned and liquid soap would be provided, teachers would be reinforcing the importance of hygiene regularly in lessons and teacher aides would supervise hand-washing in the primary school, Wadhwani said.
“You are welcome to send your child with their own soap in an enclosed soap tray and train your child how to use and look after their soap.”
