School receives 100 new desks, chairs, hand basins

TEACHERS and students of Tari Admin Primary School in Hela now have 100 new desks, teachers’ tables, chairs and a hand-washing basin, thanks to Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP).
According to BSP, Tari Admin Primary was located near the Tari Airport but with the extension of the runway, the school was relocated to Pii village.
Early this year, classes were disrupted by tribal fighting affecting students’ learning, but that did not deter the students and teachers from attending.
BSP Tari branch staff, while on an earlier visit to the school to organise and run financial literacy sessions, discovered that classes were being held in semi-permanent classrooms while students were sitting on makeshift desks, with some even sitting on the ground.
The bank stepped in and helped the school with 100 desks, four teachers’ tables and chairs, installed a hand-washing basin for the students and painted two classrooms.
“This project will now enhance students’ learning through a better and improved learning environment,” BSP Tari branch manager John Tomba Jnr said.
“Teachers can now sit properly on good tables to prepare lesson plans.”
BSP Group chairman Sir Kostas Constantinou, chief executive officer Robin Fleming and deputy general manager retail sales and customer service Peter Komon joined the Tari branch team.
