CLASSES at Toyare Primary School at the Morobe Patrol Post was suspended indefinitely due to severe damage to facilities and teachers’ houses during an earthquake.
Wawin principal Pal Pu’u said practical lessons in chemistry, physics and biology could not be conducted because chemicals, glasses, lightings and jars had been damaged.
The ceiling of the science laboratory collapsed and damaged the equipment, he said.
“Students taking chemistry are affected badly, though teachers are teaching lessons without practical skills which is crucial to complement the theory,” Pu’u said.
“We definitely need the equipment and chemicals. The estimated cost is K50,000 to K60,000 to replace them. We are unable to meet the cost.”
Pu’u said engineers from the Works Department conducted a survey and assured them that it was okay to continue classes.
