NEW Erima Primary School will host the Southern Highlands Cultural Day, principal Yalo Kipungi says.
Kipungi said plans were made before the school received the notice issued from the Education assistant secretary to stop them to host provincial days, hence his school’s event would be the last.
He confirmed that there was no damage done to school property during the Chimbu day and assured parents and students that security would be provided to protect the school property and ensure safety.
Kipungi also said an agreement was signed between the school and the student’s association to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.
“I did not receive any instructions last year,” he said.
“It was only issued this year.
“I received that circular on Sept 4 and I approached the assistant secretary to sort things out.
“And he has approved our school to host the day,” he said.
“We have taken heed of the instruction and the Southern Highlands cultural day will be the last event hosted in this school.
“I will make sure that there is no damages done to the school.
“We will get more security guards to protect our property.
“ We did the same when we hosted the Chimbu day.”
He said the provincial cultural day was part of the pre-independence celebrations where students embraced and displayed their culture.
He advised the Southern Highlanders who would be attending the day to celebrate responsibly.

  • Can NCD Eduction Division, probe the payment for the use of Gerehu Primary School grounds for hosting of Provincial Days? It was alleged that particular teacher pocketed the money paid for the use of the venue. This money I believe is supposed to be divided between the Primary and Elementary.

Further to this, hosting of provincial days during week days on several occasions disrupted students education, and this must be discouraged. It should be done during weekends.
