School turns hall into classroom to cater for rising roll
ST PATRICK’S Catholic Primary School in Lae has converted its school hall into three classrooms to cater for an increasing roll.
The school’s board of management and administration with counter funding from parents’ support fee, funded the partitioning of school hall with K17,000.
KT Construction constructed mobile partitions with metal and corrugated sheets.
Head teacher Celyne Yep said partitioning took the whole of term one to complete. It was opened this week.
Yep said parents and citizens through parents’ support fees contributed K12,000 with the
school board chipping in with K5000 for the partition.
Teachers do not live in campus because there are no houses and this has complicated matters for the school, she said.
“The school has secured funding for a six-in-one staff duplex.”
Yep said they had applied for new fencing for security reasons and were still waiting for funding.
The school has engaged eight youths from community to provide security.
