STUDENTS at the Para Primary School in the Komo-Margarima electorate in Hela celebrated the opening of their double classroom and two staff houses before closing the 2019 academic year.
ExxonMobil PNG Ltd upstream asset manager Kim Hahn, who was the guest speaker at the graduation, handed the keys to the facilities.
“At ExxonMobil PNG, we believe that education is the cornerstone of Papua New Guinea’s future.
“We believe every child should have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to fulfil their aspirations and contribute to society,” Hahn said.
The company supports the school through refurbishing existing and construction of the new classroom, upgrading sanitation facilities and water catchments, and providing desks. A group of ExxonMobil volunteers had also helped to paint the facilities.
Hahn encouraged the school to take care of its new buildings.
“When teacher and student have a safe and comfortable place to teach and learn, they have the best opportunity to have a quality education,” Hahn concluded.
ExxonMobil PNG is supporting PNG education through, school board governance programme, scholarship and school infrastructure projects in Hela, Southern Highlands, Gulf, Western, and Central.
