THE Lahara Birdwing School has endorsed itself as an institution making leaps and bounds towards providing an environment conducive to enhanced learning for children at an early age.

Principal Helen Harricknen said this when announcing the school’s progress and the areas of focus for 2016 in the 2015 school report.

“Our school is now 12 years old. It was started in 2004 when Lahara Birdwing School was called Lahara Play School and it was enrolling only pre-school students,” she said.

“We started enrolling Grade Two students in 2011 and today actually marks the fifth batch of Grade 2 students.

“This year we had an enrollment of over 200 students and these students are from Lahara Play School and Birdwing Independent School and together we make up Lahara Birdwing School.

“We started off with 12 classes with the inclusion of play school this year and they’ve come a long way.

“I can remember the first event they couldn’t actually participate on our Easter celebrations but now they are confident on stage and I look forward to more of their presentations next year.” She said the old school building was demolished this year to make way for a bigger sporting facility which will consist of a court for basketball and volleyball.

“In 2016, our hope for the next level of improvement in sports is to get the students to participate in competitions with other schools which will be part of a physical training programme,” she said.
