Schoolboys too classy in New Ireland soccer comp

A SKILLFUL and talented Solomon Islands outfit proved too classy for their opponents Kawaneps in the main fixture of the New Ireland  men’s premier soccer competition when they won 6-1 at the Kavieng Courthouse oval on Sunday.
Schoolboys comprising Solomon Islands students attending the Kavieng Fisheries College were superb with striker Junior Kotoveke collecting a goal and his striker partner Jacky Joe adding a double to lead 2-0 at the break.
They continued their good form when Mason David took less than a minute into the second half to find the target and extend their lead to 4-0.  
However, the struggling Kawaneps pulled one back through striker Rova to trail 1-4.
In the 59th minute, Kawaneps were  caught napping as Schoolboys cut through their sloppy defence to find the net.
This time, Robson Herman found the target and Passigan David scored another to seal the match 6-1 in favour of Schoolboys.
In the early games, South Seas edged ABC 3-2 and Durima and Tarangau settled for a 1-1 draw after tight contest.
In the first division, South Seas defeated ABC 2-1, Durima drew Tarangau 1-1 while Schoolboys and Kawaneps fought a scoreless draw.
In the women’s category, South Seas beat ABC 2-1, Durima belted Tarangau 2-0 Schoolboys forfeited wavering Kawaneps.
Meanwhile, games coordinator Gilchrist Walter said the last washout games would be held this weekend before the finals.
