Schools challenged with new protocols

Letters

THE government is too quick in directing schools to resume without properly analysing the Covid-19 situation in the country.
The Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra has recently published the new protocols urging schools to comply with when resuming.
The new protocols require individual schools to have the following: hand washing basin, sanitisers, masks, and other necessary equipment.
Schools principals, managers and board are kept in suspense as no clear direction from the Education Department of which funds to expend.
The Government under the health ministry should have allocated certain amount of money for the schools to purchase basic healthcare facilities and equipment.
The Government failed to assess schools’ infrastructure to make the environment conducive when applying social distancing.
Face masks are now a government requirement under the new protocols.
The Health Department should check and test the quality of the mask before being issued to schools for both students and teachers to be worn.
Social distancing is a requirement and that will be a big challenge for the schools in the country.
Urban schools can have easy access compared to rural schools.
How effective would these new protocols be when implemented in schools?
The coronavirus is a deadly disease already making it into our country.
Acting Health secretary Dr Paison Dakulala has published an update on the Covid-19 data for each province.
The Government needs to properly assess the situation because the children and teachers lives are at greater health risks.
Why is the secretary giving parents options to whether send their children to school or not.
He should have suspended classes and resume fresh next year as the prime minister said this was not the end of the world.
