NATIONAL Capital District Schools Rugby League is calling on Motu-Koita schools in the city to increase their participation, with the competition to have a separate pool for them from next season.
League president Arnold Gende told The National that the Motu-Koita pool would be added to the 2022 season alongside the three electorate pools with six schools expected to field teams from the Under-14s to U18s.
“To all Motu-Koita students, parents, teachers, leaders and communities, the league will now be pooling schools frp, 2022,” he said.
“We’ve proposed Baruni village field to host games for the Motu-Koita pool and we hope to see more support from the selected schools next year.”
The six schools for the Motu-Koita pool are Pari Primary, Badihagwa Secondary, Hagara Primary, St Michaels Primary, Tatana Primary and Papa Primary.
Gende said was important to have a pool for the indigenous schools as it reflected a full representation of the city and its peoples.
“When we restarted the competition, we always had our eyes on students from the Motu-Koita villages because they are the customary landowners of the city,” he said.
“Apart from that, we’ve seen that Motu-Koita players are talented and we want to provide more pathways for students there to excel in rugby league and in life.
“Our competition is affiliated under the PNG Rugby Football League and we want to make sure that we continue to grow as the leading schools competition in the country.”
