Schools get new carriculum materials

THE standard-based curriculum materials are being distributed to primary schools in Morobe.
School inspector Naikuli Keith Tangui said the distribution started three weeks ago.
“Straight after the teachers’ in-service training on the curriculum, we received the supplies,” he said.
“These supplies include teachers’ guides and students’ syllabus for the seven subjects. The supplies to schools are for grade 3, 4 and 5 classes. They were distributed by boat, road and plane.”
There were some shortages “but it has been take care of”.
“For example, Omili Primary School should be getting 16 boxes because they have eight classes under junior primary. But they received only one box,” Tangui said.
“I have communicated with the curriculum development division of the national education department to re-supply the materials, and they are working on that.
“The province will also spend some money on distribution, and schools who have missed out must receive the materials. K50,000 is allocated for that,”
Tangui said the province was yet to receive textbooks for teachers and students.
“The SBC materials should be in the province between December 8 to 10, and they will be distributed throughout the province.”
For teachers who missed out on the in-service training in September, “there will be one in 2019 before the academic year starts, but it will depend on the availability of funds.”
