School’s graduation brings hope

Education

THE Boisen High School in Rabaul, East New Britain has held its second Grade 10 prize-giving ceremony since the twin volcanic eruption in 1994.
The school has also been upgraded to secondary status recently.
Professor David Kavanamur who is from the locality thanked parents of the students for believing in the school.
Kavanamur said it brought a new air of optimism and hope for the people of Rabaul especially, the coastal villages from Baai and Korere.
Kavanamur told the students that Rabaul people were resilient.
“We have a long history of providing leadership in East New Britain, the country and the region,” Kavanamur said.
“Boisen HS has produced some of the best minds and professionals in the country we have some of the best feeder schools that provide quality students to come here like the Nordup Primary School,” he said.
“We have had the best support from the surrounding villages which have competed aggressively even before independence.”
Kavanamur said parents had critical roles to play towards the success of their children.
He said students need support and love, they needed a good home, they need word of God, they need balance diets, they need good lights, they need time to do their homework as well as they need laptop and internet to do their research.
He stressed that students needed good books to read adding that nothing replaces books.

  • It is good to see the air of optimism evident at Boisen high School.I was one of the pioneer teachers at the school from 1968 to 1972 and Nigel and Elita were born at Nonga base hospital. Both of them are now also teachers while ournext daughter Kelli, is a midfwife. Those days at boisen were exciting for us.I have tried for some time to contact Mary Midian who was teh first head girl at the school and also tehleader in theChristian Scripture Union. She came from the Duke of York Islands and last I heard she was teaching out near Kerevat.group.I was aiming to come back to Rabaulfor the 50th anniversaryin 2018but an operation prevented that.I think I climbed Kabiu about a dozen times and used to enjoy running to Baai and back.
I still have memories of many students including Move Varadu, Rosaline tatanur Francis and Niuia Mosley and many otherswho made our time at Boisen High schoolvery enjoyable.
I think Mr Glen Marshall the first principal was a great man who got the school started very well
    at.
