Schools in Morobe told to give acquittals before receiving funds

THE Morobe education board (PEB) has directed all schools to submit their acquittals in order to receive Government tuition fee subsidies (GTFS).
“We have received more than K7 million,” Morobe acting education adviser Keith Tangui said.
“The acquittals must be submitted before we can release funds to schools.”
Tangui said two batches of payments were for 2021 first quarter GTFS and that K7,385,162 was received for the first batch and the second batch of K3,011.20 brought the total funding for elementary, primary, high and secondary schools, including vocational centres at K7,695,173.20.
“Funding will be approved for schools when we receive their GTFS acquittals for the batch payments released last year,” he said.
“If they do not produce and submit their acquittals, then they will not receive any funding. We have decided to make school managers comply after being lenient with them for too long and various requests and directives to provide GTFS acquittals had fallen on deaf ears.”
Tangui urged schools to submit their last year acquittals quickly to avoid any disruption of classes that would affect students.
“Do not jeopardise the education of students as this is part of your administrative responsibilities,” he said.
“You have no excuse for not producing the yearly acquittals.
“Let me also assure schools that their funds are safe in a trust account and they will have access to it once we receive the acquittals.
“The Covid-19 is impacting schools.
“We are seeing good response, with school managers submitting their acquittals.
“But there are still many who have yet to act or respond.”
