Schools receive desks, chairs from foundation

AN initiative by the Hela Rural Development Foundation (HRDF) recently saw two rural schools in North Koroba, Hela, receive desks and chairs.
The HRDF, in partnership with Project Yumi, a Brisbane-based non-government organisation (NGO), donated 43 tables, 43 chairs, three whiteboards and three clocks to the Kagoma Primary School and Fugwa Primary School.
HRDF operations leader Eric Yawas said it was their mission to inspire and motivate children in remote areas and help them build better lives in Hela.
“We believe in the power of education and it is through quality education that rural children can better themselves,” he said.
“In this case, we usually have four to five children sharing a table with benched seating during classes.
“For the first time, a student will have a chair and table to himself or herself.”
The teachers and the community of Kagoma and Fugwa expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the HRDF and Project Yumi.
This was the HRDF’s second project.
