Schools selected to help teachers practise

Education

Two primary schools in the Lower Bena LLG of Unggai-Bena, in Eastern Highlands, have been selected by the district education division to become demonstration schools next year.
The two schools, St Don Bosco Namaro and Katagu Primary, will be used by trainee teachers from the newly-established Katagu Lutheran Teachers’ College as a practical field.
This was announced on Friday by Unggai-Bena senior inspector for basic education Benson Sinne when addressing thousands of people who gathered to witness the second grade 8 graduation at St Don Bosco Namaro.
Sinne said that with the phasing out of outcome-based education (OBE) and the introduction of standard-based education (SBE), he had selected the two schools for demonstration status.
Trainees will do their practical using the SBE curriculum at those two demonstration schools next year. St Don Bosco Namaro head teacher Patrick Pangatio was happy the school was going to be one of the demonstration schools.
He said with the introduction of the SBE curriculum next year, it would be very exciting for both trainees and students in the classrooms where students could learn more from trainees.
Sinne told the crowd that “schools are the light for life and education is of paramount importance for our children”,
He urged parents to put their children in schools to be educated as the Government would be paying for their school fees through the tuition fee free (TFF) policy.
“The Government counts every child in a classroom and pays for their school fees,” Sinne said.
“We cannot complain a lot about the delay on the TFF not paid on time.
“The Government will still honour its commitment to the child’s education and pay the TFF.”
