The School Football Association Port Moresby has hailed this year’s competition a success despite some hiccups at the start of the season.
Association secretary John Agovai said they faced challenges with venues, and affiliation and registration fees when the season started in April.
But the schools, parents and the association managed to rally together to complete to season.
A highlight was the growing interest from schools.
“We had to turn some away but plans are in place to cater for all the schools in the future,” Agovai said
“We also understand that Central caught the school soccer fever.”
Another interesting achievement which Agovai touched on was the engagement of the National Soccer League’s Southern Strikers to create a pathway for young talent into the semi-professional competition.
Agovai praised National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop for donating K50,000 to meet the cost of running the competition.
PNG Cool Breeze also donated K20,000.
Agovai also commended the Port Moresby International School for displaying transparency and accountability in managing the funds.
