SCHOOLS in Central will receive television sets and DVD players to learn  using EQUITV.

EQUITV – enhancing quality in teaching through television – was introduced by the Department of Education and supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency in 2005.

EQUITV coordinator Joseph John said Central through its Minimum Priority Activity funds bought the 49 television sets and DVD players for K250,000.

He said the TV sets will be distributed to the 49 Category C schools in the province.

National Education Media Centre manager Hatsi Mirou said Category C schools were those in the most remote parts.

Category B schools were semi-urban and Category A were schools in urban centres.

Mirou said Central was a pilot province in EQUITV.

Provincial education adviser Joseph Nigona urged students and teachers to make use of the material and take care of them as the province had spent a lot of money on them.
