Schools to start teaching Christian values subject: Coordinator

Education

THE Papua New Guinea education curriculum has been standardised to allow for the introduction of the citizenship and christian values education (CCVE), an educationist says.
Education Department’s national curriculum coordinator Colette Dadavana said the new subject would be taught in all schools in the country.
“The CCVE will be applied to even the church agency schools, who usually use their own syllabus to teach religious education,” she said.
“Catholic use their own syllabus while Anglicare use their own as well. “The CCVE would be taught from elementary prep to grade 12 all across the board in PNG starting in term three.
“As I speak, teachers are going through national in-service week in the National Capital District (NCD) and also around the country about CCVE.
“CCVE is the way forward for PNG because of the escalating social and community issues that involves youths and young people.
“The only way to address these problems is to implement CCVE as a compulsory subject throughout the country.”
“Not only church agency schools will teach Christian values but every school will now teach Christian values as a subject in the standards-base curriculum.
“Teachers should be seen as role models by teaching and practicing Christian values.
“Otherwise we will go back to square one.”
