Schools unsafe for girls

Letters

The parent in Southern Highlands who reported the teacher who raped his daughter should be commended.
He chose not to accept compensation and reported the matter to police and the education authorities.
How often do we read or hear stories of a hero like this parent?
The parent revealed that for many years teachers have been doing the same to girls in the school but their parents have not held them accountable.
The education authorities should take this matter seriously and develop policies to stop this kind of behaviour, or if policies are already in place, ensure they are enforced.
This country has enough problems already with a myriad of issues and the last thing we want is to see our girls raped by someone who is paid by taxpayers and in a position of trust.
This report should be a warning to parents and it should teach them to encourage children to report any form of abuse they face, whether at the hands of teachers or anyone else.
Too many employees of taxpayer-funded institutions abuse their power and privileges and in doing so hurt ordinary citizens.
A friend of mine, who sells betel nut for a living, told me that he was more scared of police than criminals.
I asked why, and he said, criminals know their job better and are peace-loving.
If this is the case, then who can people go to for protection? The criminals?
This teacher in Southern Highlands is just as bad as a bad cop. He has abused the very people he is tasked to serve.
Many teachers are doing the same thing and in the process making schools unsafe for our children.
Where can our children go to find an environment that is both safe and good for learning when the teachers themselves are the predatory animals who prey on our girls?
The Ministry of Education should get to the bottom of this.
