Schools urged to follow rules

SCHOOLS in East New Britain (ENB) should comply with the coronavirus (Covid-19) public health protocols from the education board, provincial education adviser Alkan Mararang warns.
“Official reports have been made and all schools are to follow the Covid-19 public health measures throughout this school term,” he said.
“We are asking school authorities to follow the rules that we have set.
“Do not follow your own rules because we do not want you to put students and your health at risk.”
Mararang said schools that fail to comply would be forced to close.
He told The National in Kokopo last week that the education division was working on a strategy for schools in the province and that the strategy would be ready this week.
ENB caretaker administrator Levi Mano urged schools to comply with the Covid-19 measures put in place.
“Since the relaxing of the Covid-19 restrictions, schools and the public appeared to have discontinued the public health safety protocols against the Covid-19,” he said.
“The increase in the infection rate in the province requires everyone to take responsibility of their health.”
Mano said instructions on measures for implementation in schools were distributed and there was no reason school heads to not comply.
“The current surge in the Covid-19 cases is a concern and schools are vulnerable to community transmissions,” he said.
“Everyone must be matured and give priority to safeguard students, teachers and parents.”
