Schools urged to have libraries
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
SCHOOLS in Western Highlands and Jiwaka, have been urged to have libraries to help teachers and students in their research.
Parent John Amukie said he found out after visiting schools in the two provinces that many did not have libraries.
He said books were important for students to read and help improve their English and expand their general knowledge.
Amukie said teachers under the new system of education would only give instructions to students who would be required to work on their own.
He said this was where libraries would become important to help students in their research.
He said the standard of education and English in the country was dropping because of various reasons.
Amukie said as a parent, he was concerned about the education of his children because of the lack of such facilities.
He said in the past, children were taught English from an early age to Grade Six.
He said many students in universities and tertiary institutions today could not speak and write proper English.
