GEEVES Scorpions in men’s A grade and Raukele Dolphins in women’s A grade booked first grand final spots when they beat arch rivals and defending premiers Raukele Dophins and BC Mates respectively in the qualifying finals of  Lae Volleyball at Eriku Volleyball Courts.
The first set started at a fast pace and Dolphins were equal to the task claiming it 25-22.
Scorpions quickly re-grouped and turned the tide wining the second set 25-20.
The third set was evenly contested and Raukele, led by setter Bruce Vele had the upperhand to take the early lead.
However, Scorpions with Obed Siniva, Chris Trex Va’a and Noah Bank had other ideas and quickly went back to basics with a tight finish 26-24.
A depleted Raukele could not keep Scorpions at bay going down 17-25 in the fourth and losing the game 3-1.
In the women’s, defending premiers Raukele Dolphins took on Meta Jangiko’s young BC Mates outfit to emerge victors 3-1 ( 25-16, 25-19, 16-25, 25-9).
Dolphins’ ever reliable Rose Senat and setter Rachael Joe were the best performers while Jangiko and Anna Kupa were standouts for BC Mates.
The men’s elimination final saw United ending Naka Scorps charge toward the finals 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17).
United will now meet defending premiers Raukele Dolphins this weekend in the men’s A grade grand final qualifier to determine who will take on the GeeVes Scorpions in the big one.
Likewise, a Heni Neleng-led Scorpions will meet BC Mates this weekend after beating a youthful team in Marlins led by up and  coming Clara Joe.
Scorpions and BC Mates winners will meet defending premiers Raukele Dolphins the following weekend.
