SCORPIONS will be up against rivals, Vanama in the men’s premier preliminary final in the NCD Volleyball Association at Taurama Leisure Centre on Saturday. It will be a rematch of last year’s sudden-death final where Vanama got the better of the two.
But one thing is certain, Scorpions are a much improved side from the previous encounter. The stingers beat Vanama 3-2 in the qualifying two weeks ago; therefore, they should have the physhological advantage going into this match.
Scorpions have skippers and playmaker Ula Gima, who has the advantage in height at the net when it comes to over-passes and blocks. This is what his opposing setter must bear in mind when setting their attack.
Hitters Joel Kou, Jnr Koi, Alex Solien and Leo Maino are in good form and will be hard to stop when setting is good.
Vanama will be relying on their team combination, although, they have skipper, George David, who has been solid lately. He will need all the support from Charlie David, Dustin Tom and Jack Lohia while setter Jason Nauga takes charge of setting.
Winner of this match will play Snipers in the grand final next week.
On the women’s court After Dark must recover from their 3-0 thrashing by U-Mi Yet when they take on Scorpions.
The fashioners will be led by sisters/hitters Gomara and Nao Kone, who will shoulder most of After Dark’s offence at the net while Vano Vagi controls their attack.
In the men’s division one; After Dark should eliminate Ela Motors and Gabagaba is tipped to send Snipers home.
The winner of Ela Motors and After Dark will go up against Snipers next weekend while the winner of Gabagaba and Snipers will clash with Vanama in the big one next Saturday.
