Scouts attend Malaysia meet

A SCOUT leader from Lae, Morobe province, is attending the Asia-Pacific regional scout leaders’ conference in Malaysia.
Steven Sovi, from the second Salvation troop at Tent Siti, is among 300 scout leaders from the region at the week-long meeting which ends tomorrow.
Funding for his trip was made possible by the by the Asia-Pacific regional Scouts headquarters in Manila, Philippines, through solidarity funds, Morobe chief scout James Masia said.
Mr Sovi will be joined by Major Sere Kala from the Salvation Army, who is also the PNG chief scout commissioner.
Major Kala’s trip was sponsored by Air Niugini.
They are attending the forum to discuss ways in which youths can integrally develop through scouting programmes to become better citizens.
The forum was due to discuss effective scouts programme and membership drive for scouts, including cross-cutting social issues affecting youths today in the region.
The leaders will strategise on the target groups to implement scouting programmes.
