Staff from Bank South Pacific (BSP) conducted financial literacy training for members of the Kanudi Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church.
BSP staff and training facilitator of the training Dick Kusaly told the participants that saving was easy and people only found it difficult because they were not trained to save.
“Parents should be the first people to train their children about saving and budgeting,” Kusaly said.
He said the habit of spending without saving was prominent in the society.
The participants were also introduced to methods of banking.
Kusaly said the Kids Savings Account was convenient because it has the option of automatic transfer of fund from the parents’ account into the kids’ upon the signing of the bank standing order form.
The participants were also able to open personal accounts with the bank after the training.
A church member said such training was needed because many people were illiterate and hesitant to go to the bank.
The training was held on Sunday at the church premises in Kanudi, Port Moresby.
