PORT Moresby Seventh-Day Adventist youth group returned to PNG last week after a successful completion of a two-week familiarisation trip down to Sydney, Australia, last month.
More than 100 SDA youth from Central Papua Conference, who were part of the choir (accapella) that sang at the opening of the Sydney SDA youth conference, they were invited to take part in the annual celebrations of the Greater Sydney Congress.
The group came back inspired and told of how they in turn inspired local churches in Australia throughout their stay.
“On our way to Sydney, we visited the multicultural community in Newcastle,” Yandingo Oke, who was part of the group that travelled, said, adding that the Australian SDA communities were very friendly and hospitable during their one-week stay with them.
“They let us sleep in their hall and provided food for us.”
She said the youths helped in cleaning and beautifying the church and also did some
renovation work inside the church.
“The church community in Newcastle were impressed and they helped by donating A$5,000 to help us with our travel expenses to Sydney for the congress,” Mrs Oke said.
“We would like to thank church in Newcastle for their hospitality.
“They were a blessing to us as we were a blessing to them.”
